Wellspring of Life

Oil on linen canvas
60cm x 80cm

In this painting, a magical fountain made of morning glory vines opens up to release a surging, cascading stream that nourishes life around it. I nestle in my solitude, much like resting in a flower’s bloom, and bathe in the abundant stream of life.

In my naivety, I have often confused solitude for loneliness, and stillness for emptiness. In this season, I started to embrace a gentle, almost imperceptible power that had been coursing within me all this time. What would my human spirit look like? As I journey inwards and explore what loneliness and emptiness have to tell me, they share the wounds of what needed healing- my relationship with myself that is does not rely on the validation of others.

In its subtle, balanced, free-flowing nature, I discover a free-flowing, abundant, and balanced energy that aligns all dimensions in my life. This energy is acknowledged worldwide, christened differently by various cultures: chi, prana, mana, aura, or ki. This painting is an ode to the “life energy” that courses within me, and flows to those around me.
